Wallace Construction is a family-owned and COBID Oregon Certified Emerging Small Business (ESB # 14076)

At Willow Park Apartments in Forrest Grove, OR, our crew at Wallace Construction stepped into a project that demanded careful control from the first move. The work ran right through the central lane between multiple apartment buildings, with active construction unfolding in a space that offered very little room for error.

In a multifamily setting like this, every pass of equipment matters, every stockpile needs a place, and every phase has to move in the right order.

This project centered on excavation, utility-related trench work, site prep, and concrete-related preparation. From the visible conditions on site, the middle corridor had already been opened up, with existing surface material removed so underground work could move forward.

A long strip of exposed soil stretched between the buildings, pointing to a linear utility installation routed through the property. That meant our role was tied directly to site infrastructure, not vertical construction.

Working Through a Narrow Apartment Corridor

One of the biggest factors in this job was the layout. We were operating in a tight apartment complex bordered closely by buildings, with neighboring homes and mature trees surrounding the property. That kind of environment changes how a crew works.

There is less maneuvering room, less margin for bulky staging, and a much greater need for controlled movement through the site.

An excavator in the corridor confirmed active earthmoving was underway, and the disturbed ground made it clear this was a live, moving project rather than a clean open-field install. Soil piles and construction materials were visible throughout the lane, showing active staging as the site progressed from demolition into underground work and then toward restoration.

From Removal to Restoration-Ready Conditions

The visible surface removal in the central corridor suggested that prior paving, flatwork, or access surfaces had been demolished before replacement. That sequence matters.

Before new concrete can go back in, the underground scope has to be handled correctly, the corridor has to be shaped and prepared, and the site has to be left ready for the next phase.

This is the kind of work that often goes unnoticed once a property looks finished again, yet it plays a huge role in how the whole site performs. Underground utility work, excavation, and concrete prep all connect in the same lane.

When those pieces are coordinated well, restoration moves faster, and the final surface has a better foundation beneath it.

The rough site conditions also stood out.

Heavy tire tracks and muddy ground showed that soil conditions were far from ideal. In real-world site work, that adds another layer of difficulty. Access gets messier, footing changes, and every machine movement needs more attention. Even so, progress in these conditions is part of doing the work right in an active residential setting.

Built for Multifamily Site Infrastructure Work

For us, this project reflects what site infrastructure work often looks like in occupied or closely spaced residential properties. Tight access, underground routing, removed surfaces, active staging, and future concrete restoration all have to align.

At Willow Park Apartments in Forrest Grove, OR, the work clearly required excavation in a confined layout and a steady path from trenching through site preparation.

If you manage apartments or residential properties in Forrest Grove, OR, and need excavation, trenching, utility site work, or concrete-related site preparation, our team is ready to help.
